Well, I’m officially on holidays until January 5 and it feels like I’ve been living in Auckland for way longer than six months.
I moved here on July 19, 2015, just one day before I started work as a full-time journalist at Fairfax Media.
In my short time here so far, I have learnt that this ‘city of sails’ is very similar to my home city Melbourne. The weather especially. The saying does that if you don’t like the weather in Auckland just then “wait ten minutes. For anybody that’s been to Melbourne you will notice that it also has more than one season in a day, so I’m pretty used to that now.
Working as a full-time journalist has been everything I imagined. I’ve been working toward this goal for the past two years and I love that no day is the same and you never really know what will come your way.
Making the move to Aotearoa is one of the best things I’ve ever done but it wasn’t all easy. I didn’t realise just how diverse NZ is. I came here thinking it would be easy getting to know my way around, not to mention learning about different cultures within the Maori and Pasifika communities.
When I have more time I will discuss this more and I will continue to share my adventures around this beautiful country ‘across the ditch’.
